Help with search results.

Got a user email

Description: The maximum retention days on a search is 48 days.
I use giganews with no limitation on downloads. They have much
longer retention time, but I'm unable to figure out how to get beyond newsbins 48 days.

Thought my answer might help everyone.

Search has about 1400 days of retention but, only returns 2000 results
at a time. So, if you're seeing 2000 results, the problem isn't
retention, it's how many results you're getting.

1 - You can request the next 2000 hits with the only button on the
second toolbar.

2 - You can add some filters, say size filters to reduce the number of
bad results. If you normally download things > 100 megs for instance,
a 100 meg min size filter will remove much of the spam.

3 - You can use a more detailed search string.

4 - You can select what groups you want Newsbin to look in. If most of
what you download is in the same core groups, you might want to add
those groups to Newsbin's group list and then select these groups in
the "Search in Groups" selector. Having it return results just from
the groups that really contain the content filters out junk results
too.
